Creating the Nocturnal Reader’s Box

Jessica and Vincent are the founders of the Nocturnal Book Box. We are a Veteran owned company that simply loves everything dark! We decided to create this opportunity for our customers for the same reason that many other small businesses are started every year, we wished that something like this existed. Because the book boxes that are out there currently are ones that involve only Young Adult, we decided that everyone should be able to get a book box that has a bit of mature content and items that are not coated in glitter. That’s when we began sourcing ideas and publishers. We pitched the idea to many of our friends and family and the response was overwhelmingly positive. We could not believe that no one had thought of doing this yet. We have been working tirelessly to curate the perfect items for our boxes, and made sure that every item that is put into the box is usable. Thank you for your support and we hope to build a great community around The Nocturnal Reader’s Box.

“[Horror fiction] shows us that the control we believe we have is purely illusory, and that every moment we teeter on chaos and oblivion.”
Clive Barker

In this month’s box, we will delve deeper into that sentiment. We will face our fears together…afterall what is horror fiction if not facing our fears?

What is inside The Nocturnal Reader’s Box?

We will always have AT LEAST TWO books. One new release, and one previously released title. You will always get a bookmark, and a custom art print that is only available in our box. They are not shiny glittery quotes…they are actual artworks that are commissioned per the theme each month. We will always have 7 or more items in the box per month. So far January-April have all had 8-11 items. This means that not only will you be getting more with our box, but you will be getting items that you can use and not pile in the closet for a time when you ‘may’ use them.

We decided this month to focus on new items and collaborations. We are working with a number of shops, using new items and old, and bringing back a favorite (variation) Predator and prey is all about your perspective. No matter which one you may think you are, there always a chance you’ll become the other. Both books this month are from Word Horde Publications, there will be tons of signed copies as well.

There will be a shirt this month with a special collaboration with Nameless City Apparel. They are unisex, preshrunk charcoal grey tees. If you would prefer to get just a tote, leave that option black in your account

Without a theme we’ve decided on announcing each book that we are drawing inspiration from that month. The books will remain anonymous, but we will be announcing the publisher.

So, for our first “theme-less” box, and our Halloween/One Year Anniversary Extravaganza, we are drawing from the following titles,
– American Gods (Neil Gaiman)
– Something Wicked This Way Comes (Ray Bradbury)
– The Ring Trilogy (Koji Suzuki)
– The Bachman Books (Stephen King)
– The Raven (Edgar Allan Poe)
-And a few one year surprises that will commemorate this amazing community.
BOTH BOOKS WILL BE FROM VALANCOURT BOOKS THIS MONTH. BE PREPARED FOR A BIT OF VINTAGE HORROR!
